Job Description:
The Office of Student Financial Aid, a unit within the division of Academic Affairs, is seeking to hire a Financial Aid Advisor I. This position would be located within the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarship Unit. This position is responsible for educating students and families about their financial aid options, including information on aid applications and awards, scholarship availability and eligibility requirements, along with policies and procedures according to the US Department of Education regulations and professional judgement guidelines. Furthermore, this position will ensure that the Office of Student Financial Aid is in compliance, adhering to federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations, as well as assists with awarding funds in a timely manner. Additionally, this position will work with monitoring Admissions and International Admissions awards, assist in reviewing and awarding Office of Student Financial aid scholarships, hire/train/supervise the student employees within the Scholarship Unit, manage mail for the Office of Student Financial Aid, assist the Student Employment Center with the online Job Board, and support the Student Employment Center with the Student Employee of the Year program and National Student Employment Week.
This position will also provide general financial aid counseling services to students and families. The successful candidate will have the ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment, must be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks. Must be self-motivated and have strong problem-solving skills and oral and written communication skills.

Example of Duties
• Assists students and families by making recommendations, interpreting regulations, and reviewing petitions.
• Counsels students and families regarding financial aid including eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, indebtedness, money management, and financial planning.
• Provides status updates regarding eligibility, scholarships, and applications.
• Provides specialized support for the Scholarship Unit.
• Analyzes data and applies judgement.
• Evaluates individual circumstances and documentation and makes adjustments or exceptions based on judgement.
