Iowa State University is hiring a Assistant Director (working title - Senior Assistant Director) to manage the Verification, Data Compliance and Reporting programs within the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or higher education, or other related fields
NASFAA credentials in multiple topic areas
Leadership experience
Experience coordinating the data management and reporting requirements of the Federal Student Aid program
Experience working with the Federal Student Aid Verification program

Job Description:
The position is responsible for the long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the Federal Student Aid Verification program, as well as the coordination of the Federal, State and Institutional financial aid reporting requirements. The candidate will also coordinate the data management of the Office of Student Financial Aid, in collaboration with IT services. The position will also include supervisory responsibilities including conducting performance reviews, career planning, and performance management. The position will serve as a primary representative for the Office of Student Financial Aid on institutional committees and will be responsible for disseminating that information to the Director and OSFA team members. In addition, the candidate will evaluate organizational needs and recommend suitable technical solutions and ensure facts and details are correct to meet the needs of stakeholders, legislation, policies, standards, and best practices.

The successful candidate will possess highly specialized knowledge regarding several specific areas, practices, processes, or technical methods within Student Financial Aid such as verification, EdConnect, the National Student Loan Data System, federal student aid eligibility, and professional judgments. The position may provide customer service to students and families seeking financial aid at Iowa State University, counseling them virtually or in-person in both individual and group settings.

Additional information: Primarily follows the University work week of M-F 8-5pm.

Example of Duties

• Administers and oversees the Federal Student Aid Verification process.

• Coordinates the data management and reporting cycle of the Office of Student Financial Aid, in accordance with Federal, State and Institutional requirements.

• Ensures federal, state, university, and other regulatory body expectations are met.

• Supervises employees and assigns work duties.

• May assist students and families.


Level Guidelines
• Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit
• Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports
• Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals
• Supervises a small department or work team
• Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised
• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management
• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
